ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Jan. 23, 2013) – Unidentified motorcycle gunmen killed a police intelligence officer in a daring broad daylight attack Wednesday in Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines.
Police said the attack killed PO3 Abdulhan Nassar, of the Regional Maritime Unit in Western Mindanao. Nassar was on his motorcycle and heading home when ambushed at around 2.05 p.m. in the village of Santa Maria.
The gunmen fled after the shooting. Police investigators said they found empty shells of M16 automatic rifle from the area where Nassar was killed.
No individual or group claimed responsibility for the ambush, but gun attacks are not uncommon in Zamboanga City. Last year, more than 180 people had been killed in gun attacks which the police quickly blamed to personal grudge.
Police launched an investigation into the latest killing. (Mindanao Examiner)
