Police: 5 Dead, 3 Injured in Backyard Shooting in Suburban Pittsburgh – ABC News

Desk Editor March 10, 2016

Five people were killed at a backyard house party in suburban Pittsburgh late Wednesday night, and at least two gunmen are at large, police said.

Allegheny County Police said a total of eight people were shot at the home in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania: Of those, four died at the scene (three females, one male). An additional four party-goers were transported to a hospital, but one of them, a female, died from her wounds at the hospital. Two males who were transported to the hospital are in critical condition, and one female is in stable condition.

Allegheny County Police said in a statement that at 10:54 p.m. Wednesday night Wilkinsburg Police were dispatched to 1304 Franklin Avenue in Wilkinsburg in response to a 911 call regarding a shooting at that address. According to police, based on early examination, a backyard party/cookout was being held at the rear of the home.

Police also believe the shooting involved multiple shooters. “The ballistic evidence on the scene leads police to believe that two different weapons were discharged from two different people,” police said.

As for where the shooters began firing, police said, “Shots were fired from an alley to the rear of 1304 Franklin Avenue. Partygoers appeared to try to run into the residence at which point a person on the side or backyard adjacent to the residence fired at the back porch. All four of the individuals who died at the scene died on that back porch.”

Lt. Andrew Shurman of the Allegheny County Police told reporters outside the home Wednesday night, that based on “ballistic evidence,” police do not believe anyone at the party fired back in return.

Wilkinsburg is a borough in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States adjacent to the city of Pittsburgh.(DAVID CAPLAN)
