
DIPOLOG CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Oct. 28, 2013) – Philippine police arrested the village chieftain of Siayan town in Zamboanga del Norte province and accusing him of illegally carrying a hand gun at ahead of village elections this month.
The 46-year old Ronald Canlas, of Balunokan village, was arrested after patrolling policemen saw him threw a .38-caliber pistol upon seeing the officers.
Villagers have reported Canlas to the police for carrying a gun despite a ban imposed by the Commission on Elections during election period.
Police said Canlas was caught unaware by the patrol and immediately tossed his weapon upon seeing the members of the Regional Public Safety Battalion 9 at Sitio Mapang in Balunokan village.
It said the village chieftain is facing criminal charges for illegal possession of firearm and violation of the gun ban. (Mindanao Examiner)
