
ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR (Mindanao Examiner / Dec. 4, 2013) – Police arrested a sawmill operator and seized over 240 pieces of illegal lumber in Tambulig town in Zamboanga del Sur province in Mindanao.
Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, a regional police spokesman, said police forces swooped down at Purok Uno in the village of Lower Liason and raided the sawmill following reports of illegal cutting of trees in the area.
He said the lumber yard was owned by Rogelio Palong-Palong, of Molave town also in Zamboanga del Sur.
Huesca said a composite team from the local police force and 1st Maneuver Platoon of Zamboanga Del Sur Public Safety Company, together with the personnel from Department of Environment and Natural Resources and Local Environment and Natural Resources Office carried out the operation.
“The arrested person failed to present legal documents. Meanwhile the seized items are now under the custody of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources,” he said. (Mindanao Examiner)
