
ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Apr. 10, 2013) – Police have ordered an intensified campaign against criminality in the southern Philippines ahead of local and national polls in May.
Western Mindanao police chief Juanito Vaño, Jr., directed all provincial and city police chiefs to personally supervise the conduct of the anti-crime operations in their respective jurisdiction.
This, after Interior Secretary Mar Roxas ordered the Philippine National Police to go hard against all types of organized crime groups, criminals, illegal gambling, wanted persons, loose firearms and dismantling of private armed groups.
“The solemn thrust of the Philippine National Police is the active presence of policemen on the streets, places of convergence and at business establishments. They are to be seen, felt and experienced by the community,” Vaño said.
“The public is assured that the police is doing its utmost best to prevent and control crimes, and at the same time, encouraged the populace to assist the authorities by providing relevant and timely information that will lead to the neutralization of the criminals,” he added.
Vaño said the result of police operations in the region manifests that the PNPs anti-criminality campaign has greatly improve particularly on the aspect of collecting illegal weapons, dismantling of organized and syndicated crime groups and private armies, illegal gambling, among others.
