
ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / July 19, 2012) – Police filed charges against a suspected illegal drug dealer who was arrested during a drug bust in Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines, officials said.
Officials said the 28-year old man was arrested recently by members of a police special task force led by Senior Inspector Elmer Solon in the village of Baliwasan.
Police also seized from him 2 small sachets containing “shabu” or methamphetamine, a 9mm caliber pistol, one magazine with eight bullets, a mobile phone and two marked P100 bills, used by the undercover agents in the anti-drug sting.
In the Philippines, as in Thailand, Japan, Korea and Taiwan, shabu is the drug of choice and Asia accounts for 60% of methamphetamine users. Shabu is a powerfully addictive methamphetamine stimulant which easily accessible and affordable and is the choice of over 90% of Filipino drug users.
Police said the man is facing criminal charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act and illegal possession of firearms. (Angelie Cahulugan)
