
ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Nov. 22, 2013) – Police forces killed a gunman who opened fire on a police car in Malangas town in Zamboanga Sibugay province, officials said Friday.
Officials said the 35-year old Nonoy Pangilan was killed during a pursuit operation shortly after he attacked the prowl car. No one was killed or wounded on the police side.
Chief Inspecor Ariel Huesca, a regional police spokesman, said Pangilan was believed to be involved in the spate of gun attacks in the town. He said policemen recovered a .45-caliber pistol from Pangilan and two magazines.
“Subject was neutralized during the conduct of the hot pursuit operation after he opened fire towards the patrol car of Malangas Municipal Police Station while its elements conducted mobile patrol. Likewise, subject was responsible in the series of shooting incidents occurred at the municipality of Malangas,” Huesca said.
Police also tightened security in the town following the killing of Pangilan. (Mindanao Examiner)
