Police rescue Malaysian woman from abusive husband in Philippines

Desk Editor July 5, 2015

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Philippine policemen have rescued a Malaysian woman and her 11-year child from her abusive Filipino husband who is now facing charges in Zamboanga City, officials said.

Officials said the 23-year old woman, Munirah, and her baby were taken from the man’s house in the village called Baliwasan. The accused, Dakula, was taken into custody, but managed to put up a bail for his temporary freedom while the case is being heard by the court.

Insp. Dahlan Samuddin, a regional police spokesman, said Dakula is being accused of maltreating his wife.

“Munirah, a Malaysian national and her daughter, were rescued from her alleged husband identified as Dakula…who reportedly maltreated her,” Samuddin said.

“The case (has been) filed against accused for Violation of Section 5 (E) of RA 9262 after having opted to avail of his rights to preliminary investigation,” he added.

It was unknown if the Malaysian embassy was aware of the case. (Mindanao Examiner)
