COTABATO CITY – Police have confirmed the kidnapping of 4 people by gunmen in Maguindanao province in the troubled Muslim autonomous region in southern Philippines.
Police identified the victims as Jason Cababayao, whose family owns a hardware store in General Santos City; and Raulito Suyom, an architect by profession; and two other companions – Rho Steven and Francis Wong.
The men were reportedly seized March 29 while travelling in a truck in Shariff Aguak town.
Their families have not issued any statement about the kidnappings, raising suspicion that negotiations with the kidnappers were probably going on for the safe release of the victims.
No individual claimed responsibility for the kidnappings, but several rebel groups and criminal gangs are actively operating in the autonomous region. (Mindanao Examiner)
