Police won’t condone ‘bounty hunter’ cops

Desk Editor June 9, 2018

THE PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) strongly said that it will not condone criminal acts by policemen who would kill for rewards or bounties.

“We will be on guard against those police officers who will be found doing things that are beyond their normal function,” new national police spokesman Senior Superintendent Benigno Durana Jr. said.

Durana said those who will violate the law will face criminal and administrative charges. “Ang trabaho ng pulis is within human rights and the rule of law and that is running after wanted person. Yung pagpatay is not a policy of the Philippine National Police lalong lalo na ng ating pinuno ngayon sa Philippine National Police, si (Director General General Oscar Albayalde,” Durana said, following reports that some policemen resort to killing to claim the bounties offered by the government.

He underscored that the PNP leadership is presently going after “scalawags” in the organization with 398 personnel now facing criminal charges.

“Talagang priority ng Chief of the PNP, napakasimple and that is an intensified campaign against illegal drugs and at the same time cleanse our ranks,” Durana said, adding, misfits, scalawags and corrupt policemen are very few, with the majority professionally doing their job to secure the country.

“Mangilan ngilan lang yan. The majority of the Philippine National Police ay mga matitino, professional, whose only motive is to serve the people making sure there is a safe and secure environment,” he said. (Benjamin Pulta)
