
DIPOLOG CITY (Mindanao Examiner / June 17, 2013) – A policeman trying to arrest three members of a farming family had been stabbed dead Monday by one of those he was serving a warrant in the town of Gutalac in Zamboanga del Norte province in southern Philippines, officials said.
Officials said PO1 Arthur Utong was rushed to hospital, but died along the way. The assailant – Dorie Casipong – who stabbed Utong with a hunting knife was himself shot and wounded by the officer.
Utong was serving the warrant for the arrest of Utong and his parents Benigno and Virginia Casipong who are all facing theft charges in the town.
Both parents managed to escape during the commotion and are now being hunted by authorities. Casipong’s sister, Virgina Alipan, was also arrested for interfering with the work of the police.
The family was accused of taking coconuts in the village of Tipan. Judge Oscar Tomarong, of the Regional Trial Court Branch 28, issued the arrest warrant for the trio. (Mindanao Examiner)
