ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Feb. 6, 2013) – A policeman escorting government teachers was shot in an attack by gunmen Wednesday on a remote village in Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines, officials said.
Two gunmen opened fire with automatic rifles on the policeman in the village of Maasin and wounding him. The attackers escaped after a brief exchange of fire, officials said.
No teachers were killed or injured in the attack, said Senior Superintendent Edwin de Ocampo. “We still don’t know the motive of the attack,” he said.
It was unknown whether the attack was a failed kidnapping or not, but teachers had been abducted in the past in Zamboanga City. (Mindanao Examiner)
