ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / May. 1, 2013) – The Philippine Ports Authority and the Maritime Industry Authority have imposed a strict policy that will only allow passengers with tickets inside in the Port of Zamboanga, according to the Coast Guard.
It said the No Ticket-No Entry policy shall be imposed in all passenger terminals in Zamboanga. It said all passengers will have to pass the terminals to ensure safety and security.
“The policy is to ensure the safety and security of the public availing of sea transport. Everybody shall have to pass through the passenger terminal. This little discomfort and adjustments on your part is for your own safety and security,” the Coast Guard said.
Security is lax in the pier and many of its X-ray machines are either broken or not working, and passengers, especially those in vehicles usually go through the port without passing the terminal, raising concerns that some may be involved in smuggling illegal weapons, explosives or drugs.
