MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / Apr. 16, 2014) – Philippine President Benigno Aquino has inspected various bus depots, sea and airports on Wednesday and also presided over a conference with the police over the security and safety preparations for the Holy Week.

Aquino inspected the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City where he checked security facilities there and was also briefed by airport officials about the operations this Lenten season.

He then inspected the North Port Passenger Terminal Complex in Manila and personally looked at the pier’s baggage and passenger screening area, pre-departure gates and other facilities.

After the port visit, Aquino went to the bus terminals in Quezon City.

Police Chief Alan Purisima told Aquino that they are now on heightened alert status and has increased police presence in places of convergence.

“We have heightened security in malls, bus terminals, seaports and airports and we have established police assistant desks in these key establishments,” he said.

He further said the police has collaborated with various private agencies for the deployment of marshals at bus terminals and bus stops for the security of motorists and commuters.

“Our police community relations officers have also been intensifying crime prevention awareness measures against burglary and other crimes against property,” he said.
