President Benigno Aquino leads the distribution of relief goods to villagers displaced by floods in San Pedro town in Laguna province.
MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / Aug. 21, 2013) – Filipino leader Benigno Aquino has assured citizens on Wednesday that the government is ready to extend any form of assistance to the victims of widespread flooding in the country.

Aquino gave the assurance during his visit in a school in Laguna province where he helped distribute food aid to villagers displaced by the typhoon Maring. The food packs consisted of rice, noodles, coffee, cans of sardines and corned beef, as well as mattresses and blankets.

The school has been used as a temporary shelter to over 6,000 people.

“Ready po ang inyong gobyerno dito sa kalamidad na ito at huwag tayo magaalala, marami tayong resources pa na magagamit para maibalik tayo sa maayos sa lalong madaling panahon,” Aquino said. “Nandito nga kami lahat para tumulong, para makita kung ano — kung may kakulangan pa.”

Social Welfare Secretary Corazon Soliman briefed Aquino on the relief efforts in the province where the government put up 47 evacuation centers to serve thousands of people affected by the floods.
