MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / May 8, 2014) – The Philippine Army has began investigating the explosion at an ammunition storage inside its base that injured at least 2 dozen people.
The Wednesday blast destroyed the building of the Army Support Command inside Fort Bonifacio. The cause of the explosion is still unknown, but army officials said an investigation into the explosion has been launched.
Most of the wounded were soldiers and firefighters who were hit by flying debris following the huge explosion. They were fighting the fire when the whole building exploded in flames, sending many people scampering for safety from burning metal and concrete fragments.
The whole area was closed on Thursday to allow investigation. Officials would not say if the blast was connected to terrorism, arson or electrical fire. (Mindanao Examiner)
