ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / July 2, 2013) – A provincial bus driver was killed in a gun attack in the southern Filipino province of Zamboanga Sibugay, police said Tuesday.
Police said the victim, Arniel Andicoy, was shot by two gunmen riding tandem on a motorcycle along the highway in Imelda town.
Andicoy, who worked for the Rural Transit Inc., was shot as he was slowing down in the village of Gandiangan.
The driver was heading to Pagadian City from here, but made a stopover in Siay tow. Police said the attackers may have followed the bus from Siay and attacked Andicoy when he slowed down to allow the bus inspector George Amorganda to disembark.
The gunmen fled after the shooting. Andicoy was shot several times with a .45-caliber pistol, according to the police.
The motive of the attack is still unknown. The bus firm is one of the biggest in the southern Philippines.
Last year, one of its bus was bombed in Zamboanga City and 5 passengers were wounded in the blast blamed by authorities to rebels who were extorting money from the company. (Mindanao Examiner)
