
COTABATO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Sept. 3, 2012) – Two moderate quakes were reported in the southern and central Philippines on Monday, but there were no reports of injuries or damage to properties, according to local authorities.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center said the earthquake, measuring 5.8 Magnitude, was traced 40 kilometer under the sea off the Moro Gulf, and was felt at around 2.50 p.m. in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao, Kidapawan, Davao, Cotabato and Zamboanga City in Mindanao.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said the earthquake was Tectonic in origin and that there were no reports of aftershocks.
It said the tremor registered Intensity 4 in Cotabato City; Intensity 3 in Maguindanao and Intensity 2 in Kidapawan and Zamboanga City.
“It was a little shaky. I can feel my table and chair shake briefly,” said video editor Francisco Mendoza in Zamboanga City.
The United States Geological Survey also reported another earthquake measuring 4.7 Magnitude at around 5.21 p.m. some 85 miles east-southeast of Guiuan town in Samar province which was struck by a powerful tremor last week. (Mindanao Examiner)
