CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Communist rebels raided a banana plantation in the southern Philippines, but authorities said there were no reports of casualties from the attack.
Dozens of New People’s Army rebels assaulted the plantation owned by DOLE Philippines on Tuesday in Valencia town in Bukidnon province.
It was not immediately known if rebels were demanding money from the company, but police and military said the NPA has been extorting money from various plantation owners in the restive region.
The NPA has been fighting for many decades now for the establishment of a separate state in the country. (Mindanao Examiner)
