ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Nov. 16, 2012) – Motorcycle gunmen shot and killed a man in a daring broad daylight attack on Friday in Zamboanga City in the southern Philippines.

Police said the man – Burlyn Romulo Justiniani – was riding a motorcycle when shot at noontime by one of two assailants tailing him along Nunez Extension near the Ciudad Medical Hospital.

The gunmen took the victim’s shoulder bar before escaping. Justiniani was rushed to the hospital, but security guards said the victim, who worked as a collector for Rebisco (Republic Biscuit Corporation), succumbed to his wounds.

Police said it recovered the motorcycle used by the gunmen in their escape in the village of Upper Calarian, but there were no reports about the assailants.

The motive of the attack is still unknown, but police said it is investigating the shooting.

Gun attacks are not uncommon in Zamboanga City where killings have reached more than 150 since early this year. Hired killers are known to actively operate in Zamboanga. (Mindanao Examiner. With a report from Alvin Lardizabal)
