MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / Jan. 22, 2013) – Cagayan Representative Jack Enrile expressed his sympathies and condolences to the families of six Filipinos who were reported as among those killed by Islamist militants while four others are still reported missing in a hostage crisis that erupted in Algeria recently.
A surprised Enrile described the news as “saddening” after hearing remarks by Foreign Affairs spokesperson Raul Hernandez who confirmed the death of Filipinos, based on reports they had received from the Philippine embassy in London Monday.
“My family and I join the nation in mourning the loss of our highly-skilled Filipino workers in the bloody hostage crisis at an Algerian gas field. Our hearts and prayers go to the families and relatives of the overseas Filipino victims affected by this senseless violence,” Enrile said.
Enrile, son of Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, thanked the DFA for continuously supporting overseas Filipino workers, especially in this hostage situation in light of its limitation and the reality of the situation.
