DAVAO CITY – A former policeman escaped death following a roadside bombing in Mati City in the southern Philippine province of Davao Oriental, authorities said Wednesday.
Police said Ferdinand Mabandos was driving his truck when an improvised explosive was detonated in the village of Macambol Tuesday afternoon.
Mabandos managed to drive his truck away from the blast site and sought help from the police.
Witnesses said they saw three men running away from the area after the blast. No individual or group claimed responsibility for the bombing which coincided despite the prolonged martial law declaration in the troubled region.
