DAVAO CITY – Police shot dead one of two young men who held up a cabbie late Thursday in Davao City in southern Philippines, officials said.
Officials said the other man was being pursued by policemen. The identity of the slain man is still unknown. Officers have recovered a revolver from the slain robber.
A police patrol chanced upon the cabbie who sought help officers who pursued the men in Juna Subdivision, but they opened fire on the cops, sparking a brief firefight that killed the robber.
Vice Mayor Paulo Duterte praised the quick reaction of the police.
“2 ka batan-on nga mga lalaki ang nang holdup sa usa ka taxi sa Juna Subdivision. Maayo kay naay niagi nga police mobile ug nakapangayo dayon kini ug tabang. Gigukod sa mga kapulisan ug nakig pinusilay ang mga holdaper. Usa niini patay on the spot. Ang usa ginapangita pa. Salamat sa abtik nga aksyon sa atong kapulisan,” he said on a post on his Facebook page. (Mindanao Examiner)
