DAVAO CITY – Philippine officials said a P14-million rubber processing plant will soon rise in Compostela Valley province in Mindanao Island and it would be the first in Davao region.
The plant is a joint project between the Department of Agriculture’s Mindanao Rural Development Program and the provincial government.
“The project is among the big-ticket projects of MRDP to support the production and marketing capability of the region as it gears to increase rubber production,” MRDP program director Lealyn Ramos said.
She said the town of Laak is the site for the processing plant where some 2,500 hectares are now planted to rubber.
Rubber farmers and consolidators usually bring their rubber to Makilala town or Kidapawan City in North Cotabato, a five-hour drive away from Compostela Valley. (Sherwin Manual)
