Salt poisons 7 people in Southern Philippines

Chief Editor July 15, 2015

COTABATO CITY – Seven people were hospitalized for food poisoning after they reported used tainted salt in their food in the southern Philippines.

The victims, all members of the Ricablanca family, complained of dizziness and stomach pains just shortly after finishing their meal on July 13 in the village of Dajay the town of Surallah in South Cotabato.

The Ricablanca couple said the salt was bought from a neighbourhood store which they used in cooking, although they had initially noticed a strange aftertaste in their meal.

Health authorities have taken samples of the food and the salt as investigation continues.

This occurred just as authorities were investigating a massive food poisoning that downed at least 2000 mostly students in the Caraga region, also in the southern Philippines. The victims claimed to have eaten durian and mangosteen-flavored candies manufactured in Davao City.

At least 9 people who sold the candies were facing charges. It was not immediately known whether the candies were expired or tainted with toxic chemicals. (Mindanao Examiner)
