Sari-saring puna dahil sa mobile phone communication shutdown sa Zambo

 Makikita sa larawang ito na mula sa Facebook account ni Mayor Beng Climaco ang isang bahagi lamang ito ng mahabang procession na dumaan sa harapan ng Zamboanga City Hall nitong Oktubre 12, 2014. 
 

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Umani ng sari-saring reaksyon mula sa publiko ang biglaang shutdown ng cell phone signal sa Zamboanga City na nagtagal ng ilang oras dahil sa taunang grand procession na dinaluhan ng libo-libong deboto at mga Katoliko.

Walang abisong ibinigay ang Smart Communications at Globe Telecom sa pagputol nito ng lahat ng mobile communication nitong Linggo ng hapon, partikular sa sentro ng Zamboanga na kung saan umikot ang mahabang procession.

Ipinarada rin sa naturang procession ang ibat-ibang mga estatwa ni Kristo at Birheng Maria bilang pagpupugay sa “Our Lady of the Pillar” na siyang santo ng naturang lungsod na nagdiriwang sa Hermosa Festival. Matagal na itong tradisyon ng mga Kristiyano sa Zamboanga na dating Spanish colony.

Hindi ito ang unang pagkakataon na naganap ang shutdown ng cell phone signal sa Zamboanga na ilang ulit ng binomba ng Abu Sayyaf gamit ang cell phone bilang trigger sa blasting cap.

Nitong Sabado lamang ay isang thermos na iniwan ng babaeng naka-turong o belo sa Plaza Pershing sa sentro ng Zamboanga ang pinasabog ng police bomb squad gamit ang water disruptor sa hinalang bomba ito. Natagpuan sa nasawak na thermos ang mga wiring at puting granules na hinihinalang ammonium nitrate na pangunahing sangkap sa mga pampasabog na kalimitang gamit ng Abu Sayyaf.

Inakusahan naman ng iba na human rights violation ang ginawang pagputol sa cell phone signal, ngunit pabor naman ang mas marami dahil mas mabuti umano ang ma-preempt ang anumang posibleng balak ng mga terorista o maganap na pambobomba ng Abu Sayyaf.

“If there’s a real threat, and so be it. People’s cooperation is needed. Mahirap, but better safe than sorry,” ani Dinah Libunao sa iniwang post bilang reaksyon sa kumalat na batikos sa Facebook ukol sa naging paguutos ng pamahalaang-lokal.

“How is it a grave abuse of human rights to keep people from getting injured or killed? Isn’t it more of a have abuse if human rights to let it happen when you have a way of stopping it? Or are you that addicted to your cell phone you can’t live for four or five hours? Bobo talaga!,” tanong pa ni Richard Campbell bilang tugon sa isang Facebook post.

Mula naman kay Fritz Benito Delada Toral: “There is no grave human rights violation in it, saving people’s lives is much more important than using your darn cell phone.” (Mindanao Examiner)
