ZAMBOANGA CITY – A government militia was killed in an attack by Abu Sayyaf rebels on Saturday on a villager in Maluso town in Basilan, one of five provinces under the Muslim autonomous region.
More than a dozen gunmen attacked the militia and then took his weapon. Other reports said the militiaman was also decapitated and that another militia, who was a part of a security unit under the army, had been shot and wounded by rebels.
The Western Mindanao Command did not release any report or statement about the daring raid, but the town had been previously attacked by the Abu Sayyaf.
Local town and provincial officials also did not give out any statement, but police forces have tightened the security in Maluso.
Authorities have linked the Abu Sayyaf to the spate of ransom kidnappings and terrorism in Basilan and other parts of the western Mindanao and in Sulu Archipelago. The group has been linked by the military and police to al-Qaeda and Jemaah Islamiya, and recently the ISIS. (Mindanao Examiner)
