ZAMBOANGA CITY – Security forces on Monday arrested a suspected Abu Sayyaf militant in Zamboanga City who wanted for a string of criminal cases in Basilan province in southern Philippines, police said.
It said Abdul Baliyung, alias Majula Gani, was nabbed at the local pier by policemen and air force soldiers.
Police said the 34-year old Gani is wanted for 7 counts of kidnapping and serious illegal detention in the province. Gani has been hiding in the village of Sangali in Zamboanga after escaping authorities in Basilan, one of 5 provinces under the Muslim autonomous region.
No other details were made available by the police on Gani’s arrest, but the provincial police are expected to take custody of the militant. (Ely Dumaboc)
