ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Dec. 30, 2011) – Philippine authorities captured Friday an Abu Sayyaf militant tagged as one of those who were involved in the brutal killings of 11 soldiers in the restive province of Basilan.
The militant, who goes by the name of Abdulpata, was captured in Isabela City by security forces after tracking him down on a village called Kumalarang.
Abdulpata is also being implicated to the 2001 kidnapping of a more than a dozen people, including three US citizens, in the posh resort of Dos Palmas in Palawan province and brought them by boat to Basilan where many of the hostages had been killed, one of them Martin Burnham, of Kansas.
Police and military said Abdulpata is facing a string of criminal charges. (Mindanao Examiner)
