ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Dec. 23, 2013) – Police commandos shot dead an Abu Sayyaf subleader in a firefight Monday in the southern Philippines, officials said.

Officials said the police were sent to arrest Fraser Hajan in the village of Luwas in Sulu’s Parang town, but he attacked the team sparking a firefight that eventually killed him.

“Hajan attacked our troops and a firefight ensued and he was slain,” Senior Superintendent Abraham Orbita, the provincial police chief, told the regional newspaper Mindanao Examiner.

He said Hajan was involved in the 2000 kidnapping of 21 mostly European and Asian holiday makers in Sipadan Island resort off Sabah, Malaysia. (Mindanao Examiner)
