ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / July 29, 2012) – A senior member of the dreaded Philippine terror group Abu Sayyaf has been arrested following a highly secret operation in the southern province of Tawi-Tawi, police said.
Police said Ustadz Ahmadsali Badron, who goes by several aliases, was captured after agents tracked down his location in the Muslim province near the Sabah border.
Badron was linked by authorities to the kidnappings of dozens of European and Malaysian resort workers in Sipadan Island in Sabah in 2000.
He is said to have aided a group of Jemaah Islamiya in the southern Philippines and possible members of the al-Qaeda who helped financed the Abu Sayyaf’s terror operations in the restive region. (Mindanao Examiner)
