ZAMBOANGA CITY – Abu Sayyaf rebels have freed a seven-year old boy they kidnapped in the southern Filipino province of Sulu, officials said Sunday.
Officials said the boy was returned to his family late on Saturday by two of his captors in the capital town of Jolo. It was unknown how much ransom was paid by the boy’s family to the kidnappers.
The boy, a local student in Jolo, was kidnapped in March in the village of Asturias just several blocks away from the police headquarters.
The family of the victim did not release any statement. Authorities blamed the Abu Sayyaf for the spate of kidnappings in the southern region. (Mindanao Examiner)
