
ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Aug. 15, 2014) – A security guard was shot dead by a lone gunman who tried to rob a copra trading station in downtown Zamboanga City in southern Philippines, police said Friday.
Police said the attack occurred Thursday morning at the Luzon Copra where the security guard Renato Bendanillo, of the JKB Republic Security Agency, tried to stop the gunman from barging into the office.
Bendanillo was shot once in the abdomen and the gunman also tried to shoot the owner of the establishment Fredrick Chua, but the pistol jammed. Chua ran inside his office and locked its door, forcing the assailant to flee.
It was unknown why policemen near the area failed to respond immediately to the shooting which was recorded in a surveillance video of the establishment.
Police said it is investigating the shooting. (Mindanao Examiner)
