
BASILAN PROVINCE (Mindanao Examiner / Dec, 8, 2013) – Gunmen shot dead a septuagenarian member of the Catholic fraternal benefits organization Knight of Columbus in an attack in Isabela City, police said Sunday.
Police said Benjamin Miranda, 70, was driving his motorcycle when gunmen shot him in the village of Lanote. Miranda, a former village official, died on the spot. The assailants, who were riding tandem on a motorcycle, fled after the shooting.
The motive of the killing is unknown and local government officials did not give any statement about the murder.
No individual or group claimed responsibility for the attack, but killings are common in Isabela City where guns for hire actively operate and is largely blamed for the spate of murders.
Police said it is investigating the killing of Miranda. (Mindanao Examiner)
