Shooting in Duarte leaves 1 dead and 1 wounded – LA Times

Editor October 26, 2015

A shooting Sunday evening in Duarte left one man dead and injured a woman, potentially marking the first homicide in two years in the San Gabriel Valley city, authorities said.

The attack occurred shortly after 7 p.m. near Shrode and Lincoln avenues, said Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was taken to a hospital, and her condition was not immediately available, Navarro-Suarez said.

It’s unclear what led to the shooting.

If ruled by investigators as a murder, the Sunday evening shooting would mark the first homicide to occur in Duarte since 2013, according to The Times’ Homicide Report database.

Since January 2000, Duarte has been the 192nd most deadly neighborhood out of L.A. County’s 270 neighborhoods, according to a Times analysis of homicide data for that period(Matt Hamilton)
