DAVAO CITY – Fast-rising team, the Southshield Football Club, continued its winning streak after finishing second in the recently concluded Independence Day Football Festival held at the Tionko football field in Davao City in southern Philippines.
Just this year, the team which is made up mostly of students of Southpoint School, also took two 3rd place trophies in the national football tournament Del Monte Football Cup in Manolo Fortich town in Bukidnon province.
The team is composed of Jose Andrei Nuenay, Zyk Lopez, Karlos Donado, Jian Matthew Goyonan, Charles Kenn Chiu, Cedric Villamor, James Gamite, Kristoff Madrid, Luis Digman, Jared Distancia, and Kevin Sayon.
They reached the finals of the prestigious football tournament after beating 2015 Del Monte Cup champion Hyenas in a thrilling penalty shoot-out 3-2.
Southshield strikers Donado, Chiu and Gamite scored the goals for the team in penalty shoot-out. With their win, the team got a plaque from the organizers of the football tournament.
Greg Napuran, the team’s coach, said he is very happy with the win because they were able to sustain their winning momentum after taking the two trophies in the Del Monte Cup.
Napuran, a former star goalie of the University of Mindanao football team, said he hoped they could bag the championship crown in the next football tournament this year. (Bob Braceros)
