Sulu Gov calls on Human Rights Commission to investigate Tulawie

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Sulu Gov. Sakur Tan the other day called on Human Rights Commission Chairperson Etta Rosales to make a discreet investigation and dig deeper on the background of Cocoy Tulamie before issuing statements to the media.

This, after Tulawie, who was tagged as the mastermind in the Patikul and Zamboanga City International Airport bombings, blamed Tan as behind his arrest.

“Why blame me for his arrest. It is the police who are after him. If he is not guilty of the crimes leveled against him then why hide in Davao? Tan asked. “He should have surfaced and explain his side to the authorities.”

Tan asked why Tulawie was pointing an accusing finger on him when it was his companions who told the police about his participation in the bombings.

“I call on the Human Rights society to dig deeper on Tulawie’s background and not merely side with him. Ako pa nga ang naging biktima sa bomba, paano kung namatay ako,” Tan stressed.

According to Tan, Tulawie was the main negotiator during the Sipadan hostage crisis.

“Nagtatago lamang siya sa likod ng human rights,” Tan said.

It will be recalled, Tulawie was arrested by combined elements of the police and military intelligence in Davao on the strength of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Leo Principe.

During interview, Tulawie blamed a Sulu politician as having to do with his arrest. He vehemently denied allegations that he masterminded the bombing at the Zamboanga airport.(Nonong Santiago / Zamboanga Today)
