SULU – Some P59 million worth of projects are set to begin in Sulu and most of the fund will go for the construction of a two-storey school building and the fencing of another school in the province.
Commissioner Luningning Omar, of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, visited Sulu Governor Totoh Tan to say that the funding is ready and now with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) which will implement the projects.
The fresh funding came after Tan requested this from President Rodrigo Duterte, who immediately sent Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol to Sulu and personally see what assistance is needed in the province to spur development and promote peace there.
Piñol – who met with Tan when he visited Sulu recently – inspected the Hajji Butoh School of Arts and Trade and Sulu State College after the governor strongly recommended for its rehabilitation.
Tan also urged DPWH to fast track the projects that will largely benefit the students. He also asked CHED to address the lack of training tools and equipment of students.
He said Hajji Butoh School of Arts and Trade is one of the most important and iconic educational institution in Sulu. Tan also proposed that the school be named Sulu Polytechnic College. (Ahl-franzie Salinas)
