SULU (Mindanao Examiner / Dec. 25, 2011) – Some P30 million worth of government projects have been lined up for implementation in the southern Filipino province of Sulu in the Muslim autonomous region.
Governor Sakur Tan said the projects are part of the “Misyon ng Kapayapaan” under the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process headed by Secretary Teresita Deles to jumpstart peace and development and improve living conditions in the province.
Among the projects covered court, farm-to-market roads, public markets, trading centers, libraries, school buildings, multi-purpose halls, post-harvest facilities, among others.
OPAPP Director Susana Marcaida and Army Brigadier General Gerardo Layug recently met with Tan and his mayors in Sulu to hand-over the projects which will also benefit former Muslim rebels who are integrated into the community and poor villages.
“The Moro National Liberation Front areas will be developed and even the provincial government is ready to assist in providing opportunities and better the lives of our MNLF brothers,” Tan said.
Marcaida said OPAPP and the Sulu provincial government have signed a memorandum of agreement for the implementation of the projects. The program of works for each municipality will be done by their respective municipal engineers.
