MAGUINDANAO – Motorcycle gunmen had killed a staunch supporter of re-electionist Maguindanao Governor Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu in an ambush in North Upi town, police said Wednesday.
It said Lorenzo Talma was driving his motorcycle when ambushed late Monday by 2 gunmen who were tailing him. Police were still investigating the motive of the killing whether it was connected to clan war or family feud or had something to do with politics.
Talma was also a supporter of North Upi Mayor Ramon Piang and re-electionist Governor Mujiv Hataman of the volatile Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). No individual or group claimed responsibility for the killing of Talma.
Clan war is rampant in the restive province of Maguindanao where Mangudadatu is being challenged by an influential Muslim leader Datu Ali Midtimbang, who is running along with the powerful Ampatuan clan under the United Nationalist Alliance.
Talma belonged to the Liberal Party of Mangudadatu and Hataman, and Piang. (Mindanao Examiner)
