ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / July 2, 2013) – A suspected bomber was killed when an explosive he was transporting exploded on Tuesday in Lamitan City in the restive province of Basilan in southern Philippines, officials said.
Officials said the man died instantly from the blast near the village called Balagtasan and that his right leg was decapitated and arms badly severed. It was not immediately known what triggered the bomb to explode.
The still unidentified man was driving a motorcycle without a licensed plate when the bomb exploded in his bag.
No identification cards were found from the man who was clad in a sleeveless shirt and a pair of short pants resembling a military fatigue uniform and a pair of sandals and wore a scarf around his neck.
It was unknown how the man managed to pass through various military and police checkpoints in the city. Basilan has been bombed many times in previous rebel attacks. (Mindanao Examiner)
