It’s been three years now since an unidentified man fired a gun on the editorial office of The Mindanao Examiner at the 3rd Floor of the MP Towers in Nunez Road in Zamboanga City. The security guard employed by the Continental Security Agency apparently was either asleep or not in his post when the attack occurred.
The bullet was believed fired from across the office at the back of Ateneo de Zamboanga University probably at night of December 28, 2008. The bullet pierced through the Mindanao Examiner signboard before hitting the steel roll shutter and stopped by the thick glass facade of the office.
The security agency filed a police blotter, but there was no single investigation by the authorities. Zamboanga City is one of the most dangerous places for journalists in the southern Philippines. Many journalists had been murdered in Zamboanga the past two decades, but there had been no single conviction.
