PAGADIAN CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Feb. 7, 2013) – Unidentified men on Thursday kidnapped a baby of Canadian descent and his Filipino nanny in Pagadian City in the southern Philippine province of Zamboanga del Sur and have demanded P15 million ransom, security officials said.

Officials said unidentified men barged in a house in the village of Dao and seized the one-year old Timothy Sokolov and the woman. But military authorities said initial investigations pointed to the nanny as the principal suspect in the kidnapping.

Authorities are now searching for the woman and his cohorts, who escaped in a car heading to the neighboring village of Tulawas.

“There is an initial report linking the nanny to the kidnapping. Accordingly, the family already received text messages of P15 million ransom demand,” General Ricardo Rainier Cruz III, commander of the 1st Infantry Division, told the regional newspaper Mindanao Examiner.

No other details about the nanny were made available by the military or police authorities, but security forces in the province of Zamboanga were alerted about the kidnapping.

The boy’s family did not give any statement to the media about the kidnapping. (Mindanao Examiner)
