Top ISIS leader in Afghanistan and Pakistan reportedly killed in US drone strike – Fox News

Editor July 14, 2015

THE top ISIS leader in Afghanistan and Pakistan was killed in a U.S. drone strike, Afghan intelligence officials told The Washington Post.

The air assault is said to have killed Hafiz Saeed Khan, a former Pakistani Taliban commander who became affiliated with the ISIS terror group in January. At least 30 other militants were reportedly killed in the strike.

The paper quoted Afghanistan’s intelligence agency as saying the ISIS leader was killed Friday in the Achin district of Nangahar Province.

“Hafiz Saeed was killed in a gathering, an area where they were making plans,” said National Directorate of Security spokesman Asib Sediqqi.

There have been reports about his death in the past, but an Afghan official told the paper that the corpse was secured and identified.

A senior military official confirmed with Fox News that a drone strike targeting the head of the Afghanistan branch took place on Friday but said they are awaiting the results.

“‎U.S. Forces conducted a precision strike in Achin District, Nangarhar Province, on July 10 against individuals threatening the force,” said a defense official at the Pentagon.

Another senior military official said Afghanistan’s National Directorate of Security is “normally right on these sort of things.” ( FoxNews.com )
