PAGADIAN CITY – A tornado struck a small village in Pagadian City in Zamboanga del Sur province in southern Philippines, but authorities said there were no reports of casualties, although several houses were destroyed by the swirling vortex of wind and debris.
Wilfredo Asoy Jr, of the provincial disaster risk reduction management council, said the tornado hit the village of Kahayagan.
The tornado struck just as the region was being battered by heavy rains that triggered flash floods in many areas in Mindanao that had killed at least 6 people.
Authorities said the rains also triggered a landslide in he village of Biswangan in Lakewood town also in Zamboanga del Sur.
There were also no casualties in the landslide which blocked half of the road. (Christina Diabordo)
