Troops killed NPA rebels in Davao Oriental

Editor January 21, 2012

DAVAO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Jan. 21, 2012) – The Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division said it killed a still undetermined number of communist rebels in a clash Saturday in the town of Lupon in Davao Oriental province in Mindanao.

It said the fighting broke out in the village called San Isidro where troops recovered two improvised explosives and an automatic weapon. There were no reports of military casualties.

The fighting lasted more than 30 minutes, according to Brigadier General Leonido Bongcawil, commander of the 701st Infantry Brigade.

He said the New People’s Army rebels were setting up improvised explosives in the village which could endanger the lives of innocent civilians.

The NPA has been fighting for the establishment of a Maoist state in the country. (Mindanao Examiner)
