Two explosions have heard at Brussels airport with many injured, according to Belgian officials.
A statement read: “There were 2 explosions in the departure hall at Zaventem airport around 8:00am local. The possibility of a terrorist attack is being investigated. Our priority is to secure the area. There have been many injured. The level threat in Belgium has been raised to 4 (maximum alert) with special emphasis on transport hubs, airports, stations and nuclear plants.”
“We are aware of an incident at the Brussels airport departure hall and are taking care of our customers, employees and contractors. At this time, all of our employees and contractors are accounted for with no reported injuries. American Airlines flight 751 has been canceled for today. When operations at the airport resume, we will reaccommodate our customers. Customers with flights to or from Brussels may call our reservations desk at +1-800-679-8215 to get the latest information on their flights.”
The Belgian Transit Authority in Brussels has told ABC News all Metro stations are closed.
The explosions come as a Salah Abdeslam – a suspect in the Paris attacks – was detained last week in Belgium by Belgian authorities.( KELLY STEVENSON)
