UP Open University Offers Revitalized Social Studies Education Programs In 2012

MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / Jan. 11, 2012) – The UP Open University is accepting applicants for admission to its newly revised graduate programs in Social Studies Education.

The revised Diploma in Social Studies Education and Master of Arts in Social Studies Education are designed to develop practitioners and leaders who will strengthen Social Studies education in the country and the world.

The Diploma program will develop a deep understanding of the theoretical and disciplinal foundations of social studies education, and develop competencies in – Design and development of theoretically grounded and research-based curricula and instructional materials for social studies programs; Organization and implementation of relevant, interdisciplinary, and coherent social studies programs; and Assessment and evaluation of processes and outcomes of social studies education using a variety of tools and approaches.

In addition, the Master’s program will enable its graduates to – Participate in broader policy, regulatory and social discourses related to social studies education; Contribute to the body of research in social studies education; and Demonstrate and facilitate professional learning and leadership in social studies education.
