UPOU to hold 2nd International Conference on Open and Distance eLearning

MANILA – The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), in cooperation with the Philippine Society for Distance Learning (PSDL) and the UPOU Foundation Inc. (UPOUFI), is organizing the 2nd International Conference on Open and Distance eLearning  (ICODeL) from June 18-20 at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria in Quezon City.

ICODeL 2014 will feature following plenary speakers: Professor Asha Kanwar, President and CEO of The Commonwealth of Learning (COL); Professor Rory McGreal, UNESCO/COL Chair in Open Educational Resources and Professor of Athabasca University; Professor Tian Belawati, President of the International Council for Open and Distance Education and Rector of Universitas Terbuka in Indonesia; and Professor Grace Javier Alfonso, Chancellor or UP Open University and Chair of the CHED Technical Panel for Transnational and Distance Education. 

The conference carries the theme “Universities in an Era of Open Education” and will include topics on open online courses (MOOCs, TOOCs, MOUCs, and MODeLs), OER, open courseware, open textbooks, flexible learning, open educational practices, open pedagogies, open teaching, the semantic web, personal learning environments,  mobile learning, assessment and accreditation of learning, digital literacies and new media literacies, quality assurance in open education, and academic leadership and management in a time of openness.

Two pre-conference seminars will also be conducted on June 18 on Open Educational Resources by Prof. McGreal and on Academic Leadership in a Time of Openness with Prof. Kanwar, Prof. Belawati and Prof. Alfonso as the panelists.

ICODeL is a biennial international conference series on Open and Distance e-Learning (ODeL) where e-learning teachers, scholars, practitioners and policymakers share and reflect on experiences, collaboratively create and explore spaces and possibilities for ODeL for development.
