ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Jan. 21, 2012) – A decorated Filipino army commander was named as the new chief of the military’s Western Mindanao Command in Zamboanga City.
Major General Noel Coballes, who headed the 1st Infantry Division in Western Mindanao, replaced General Raymundo Ferrer, who retired on Saturday.
Coballes, who was born in Cagayan’s Tuguegarao town, also headed the First Scout Ranger Regiment of the Philippine Army’s Special Operations Command.
He is a member of Philippine Military Academy Class 80 and described as a “distinguished and bemedalled officer of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, a full-blooded combat officer, and noble warrior.”
